PHILOSOPHY

The Foundation is firmly committed to achieving superior performance in improving health through the following grantmaking strategies:
  • Selecting and investing in organizations and people that are committed to superior performance and demonstrate the ability to measurably improve health and access to healthcare services in an efficient manner.
  • Attracting others to invest time, talent, and treasure to leverage our ability to improve health and access to healthcare services.
  • Improving the performance of the Foundation, our grant partners, and others to increase organizational effectiveness and capacity to better achieve our vision.
  • Advancing knowledge by sharing lessons learned through successes and failures in order to improve the work of the Foundation and other organizations.
HEALTH FOCUS AREAS

Dakota Medical Foundation's board of directors, through their strategic planning process, has chosen to focus the majority of the Foundation's resources in the following health areas, with a special emphasis on children:

Access to Quality Medical Care Services
To improve health by supporting efforts to measurably improve access to high quality medical care.

Access to Quality Dental Care Services
To improve access to dental care services by supporting efforts to recruit and retain qualified dentists and other dental professionals.

GRANT PROGRAMS

The Foundation seeks to achieve its mission through a grant program consisting of initiative, responsive, match, donor advised and scholarship grants.

Initiative Grants

Initiatives are Foundation-sponsored, strategic grant programs with specific measurable goals that address a particular health focus area. The Foundation's current health focus areas are access to quality medical and dental care, especially for children. The Foundation may seek funding from other sources to enhance the impact of its initiatives.

Responsive Grants

Responsive grants are community-initiated grant requests to the Foundation. The Foundation considers proposals that provide innovative, measurable solutions to proven health needs and gives preference to proposals that seek to improve access to medical care or dental care services, especially for children.

Organizations that have a strong potential to impact the Foundation's current health focus areas may be eligible for an organizational effectiveness grant. If, through one of the assessment tools listed in the Organizational Effectiveness section of this website, you identify areas of organizational need, Dakota Medical Foundation is interested in reviewing proposals that will strengthen your organization.

Match Grants

Match grants leverage Foundation resources to improve health. In addition to providing matching dollars, the Foundation adds significant value to donated funds through its grantmaking expertise, performance measurement policies and resource development efforts.

Donor Advised Grants

Donor advised grants are based on recommendations DMF receives from the donor who has established the donor advised fund within the Foundation. These grants are to nonprofit organizations that have programs or projects that measurably improve health and access to healthcare services. Each donor establishes specific areas of interest they would like to support.
